Smart Agriculture in Action: How AI Irrigation Advances Harvest by 10 Days

The era of farming at the mercy of the weather is changing. In our project at Xian-Yi Organic Smart Farm, we used technology to solve three of farmers' biggest headaches: when to water, how much to water, and how to make crops grow faster.

Three pain points of traditional agriculture

First, relying on experience. Seasoned farmers know instinctively when to water, but this knowledge is hard to pass down. Novice farmers often suffer losses from misjudgment.

Second, water and fertilizer waste. Traditional irrigation waters uniformly regardless of soil moisture, wasting resources and causing soil salinization.

Third, unpredictable harvest timing. Climate change makes harvest schedules harder to predict, preventing farmers from maintaining stable supply and affecting income.

How does the AI irrigation system work?

We deployed soil sensors and weather stations across the farm, collecting real-time data on soil moisture, temperature, EC (electrical conductivity), wind speed, sunlight, and other environmental parameters.

The AI system combines this data with 72-hour weather forecasts to automatically calculate the precise water and fertilizer requirements for each zone, executed automatically via solenoid valves. The result: over 30% reduction in water and fertilizer usage, with more consistent crop quality.

How does smart lighting advance the harvest?

This was the most impressive part for the farmers. Different crops have different light wavelength requirements. Based on crop characteristics, we provide professional light wavelength recommendations, paired with a smart lighting system that supplements light during low-sunlight periods and adjusts spectral ratios during specific growth stages.

The result: harvest was consistently advanced by 7-10 days. For farmers, earlier harvesting means capturing better market prices, more stable delivery schedules, and a direct increase in income.

Zero annual fees: worry-free for farmers

We understand the financial pressure farmers face. That is why our smart system uses a zero-annual-fee model — farmers only pay the initial setup cost (which can be offset by government subsidies), with all subsequent system maintenance and upgrades completely free. We use technology to boost farmers' competitiveness, not to add to their burden.
